U.S. Photovoltaic Manufacturing Consortium Announces Lineup of Expert Presentations and Workshops at Intersolar 2013

June 25, 2013 — Albany, NY

Executives and technology leaders from the U.S. Photovoltaic Manufacturing Consortium (PVMC), an industry-led national collaboration headquartered at SUNY’s College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering (CNSE) in New York that is designed to accelerate next-generation solar photovoltaic (PV) technologies, will highlight leading-edge research during a series of appearances at Intersolar North America 2013, being held July 8-11 in San Francisco, CA.

Presentations and PVMC-hosted workshops will address PVMC’s role in accelerating the development of advanced solar PV-related manufacturing processes and helping the U.S. PV industry meet the Department of Energy SunShot Initiative goal of reducing the total installed cost of solar energy systems by 75 percent over the next decade.

The media is invited to attend the following events:

Monday, July 8, 9:30 a.m. – 9:50 a.m.

Workshop: 4th Annual SEMI North American PV Fab Managers Forum
Summary: The Intersolar North America Session 1 Keynote will discuss US solar, how to grow manufacturing, secure market deployment, as well as expand into Latin America.
Location: Level 3, Grand Ballroom A, Intercontinental Hotel

Wednesday, July 10, 8:00 a.m. – 5:15 p.m.

Workshop: 2nd Annual c-Si PVMC Workshop
Summary: PV manufacturers will share current needs and challenges in the areas of feedstock, wafering, and metrology, and identify barriers to mainstream manufacturing.
Location: San Francisco Marriott Marquis

Wednesday, July 10, 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Workshop: SunShot Prize Workshop: West Coast
Summary: Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), the SunShot Prize Workshop is focused on solar soft cost challenges and avenues in which the SunShot Prize can help spur business innovation.
Location: San Francisco Marriott Marquis

Thursday, July 11, 8:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Workshop: Infrared Thermography for PV Applications
Summary: Experts will review applications and case studies demonstrating infrared thermography use in PV array installation, operations, and maintenance.
Location: San Francisco Marriott Marquis

Thursday, July 11, 12:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.

Workshop: Annual PV Roadmap Public Forum
Summary: Sponsored by the PVMC and hosted by SEMI PV Group, this event will address the seven roadmap focus topics: balance of systems, roll-to-roll, rigid glass, substrates and materials, modules and packaging, metrology, and reliability/certification/test.
Location: Intercontinental San Francisco Hotel

Created as part of the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) SunShot initiative and led by SEMATECH and SUNY’s College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering (CNSE), PVMC is bringing together the solar community – including industry, academia, and government – to accelerate the development, commercialization, and manufacturing of next-generation copper indium gallium selenide (CIGS) thin film technologies. In partnership with the University of Central Florida, PVMC is also conducting additional R&D in crystalline silicon (c-Si) metrology and wafering methodologies.

Through its collaborative programs and advanced manufacturing development facilities, PVMC is a proving ground for innovative solar technologies and manufacturing processes. Its goal is to increase the performance and speed the implementation of PV technologies while driving down costs.

Intersolar North America (http://www.intersolar.us) takes place annually in San Francisco’s Moscone Center West Hall. Since its establishment in 2008, the exhibition and conference have developed into the premier platform for the solar industry in North America, focusing on photovoltaics and solar thermal technology.
